Chalkland tours offers bookings uniquely through our online booking portal. We endeavour to cover most possible combinations of the things that people would like to see. 

As you are booking directly with us (we dont use other online travel agents) you are always able,  upon discussion with our guide Brendan on the day of the tour,  to make changes to what you would like to see on the day (subject to whether sites have already been booked, ticket avaliability and the sites opening hours.) Refunds will not be possible for the cost of tickets which were previously purchased for a tour if the itnerary is changed on the day. i.e. on the day deciding to go see Windmill Hill instead of West Kennet Long Barow. 

For example the tour Neolithic sites has nothing prebooked, would be the ultimate on the fly day, seeing a number of different neolithic sites depending upon what most interests you at the time, a challenge which Brendan very much enjoys!

Pickup areas

We offer pickups in our vehicle (Dacia Jogger) in a number of different areas up to an hour and a half away from stonehenge. 

The area immediately surrounding Stonehenge and Salisbury is free to pick up with prices at different categories depending on distance and time for further away pick up areas.
The time of the tour is indicative of how long we would actually spend looking at different sites and scenically driving between them. The pickup time is added in addition to this.

For example a full day from Salisbury would be 7 and a half hours with 1 hour of travel time ( half hour each way) added on top of that so 8 and a half hours in total. Another example would be Oxford with the base 7 and a half hours with 3 hours in additional travel time to the Stonehenge area. Thus the total booked time would be 10 and a half hours. 

Cancellation

We are a company which consists of a husband and wife with a young family. Both of us, as well as running this business, are self employed; Brendan as the tour guide for this company and Helen as a classical musician. When we are not working we are full time parents. When one of us is working the other one is a taking care of our children. For this reason we keep the option open in the case of emergencies to cancel the tour which you may have booked. In this very unlikely case we would refund you 100% the cost of the tour in the exceptional circumstance that we ourselves have decided to cancel.

Why do we refund you instead of passing you onto another guide? We believe that delivering the tours just ourselves rather than using any other guide we are able to keep absolute quality control and through Brendan's extensive reading offer a more indepth experience based on years of passion for the subject, than would be possible from multiple guides delivery the same itinerary. 

If you decide to cancel we can offer you a 50% refund up to 2 weeks before the date of the tour. Or the possibility of rescheduling at a later date. Unfortunately we will not be able to offer a refund less than 2 weeks before the date of the tour. 

Flexibility and the reality of opening times

We endeavour to be honset about the practicalities of dealing with sites which often have limited parking and on some occasions last minute closures. 

Stonehenge is open almost every day of the year except Christmas day. Salisbury and South Wiltshire museum is open almost every day except for a brief period around Christmas (which is only announced a few months in advance). 

A number of places other than the most major sites have very small parking areas which sometimes may require some creative thinking (and sometimes a short walk!) to park nearby.  

Please bear with us when on occasion we have to deal with changing plans perhaps because of some countryside traffic, maybe caused by a tractor or perhaps a pony in the new Forest!

Information after booking

After booking you will receive an email with the details of what the best clothing and footwear would be for your type of tour. 

There is also a contact email address on the email you receive after booking, if you have any queries or if you would like to cancel your tour.

Also listed on the email and on the subsequent reminder is a contact number to be used on the day of your tour if we are unable to find you at the pickup location or somehow become separated during the tour. 

Reminders and contact on the day

We send out a text message to confirm that your tour has been booked at the time of booking.  We also send you a text a day before the tour itself, reminding you the description of the vehicle and the contact details of Brendan if you are unable to find him on the day.
