A Gothic Cathedral and a Forest
Take a journey through one of the last former royal hunting forests of Medieval England. It has seen a wide range of use over the last 1000 years, and inspite of its seemingly wild nature it is uttlery a product of human interaction and management, from the neolithic to today! Take a look at barren heathland or go near to where it is thought King William Rufus was killed in 1100 and spot deer, privately owned ponies, cattle and pigs which roam the open heathland and forests. Quite bizzarely and somewhat out of place in southern England! It is possible to take a walk under Coastal Redwoods and to see some Giant Redwoods along the way (all part of the substantial plantation of ornamental trees in the 19th century).
In addition we go on to Salisbury Cathedral with one of the tallest standing Medieval church spires in the world from around 1300 and is 404 feet tall. In it's interior we can marvel at the almost uninterrupted view of the uniform design of early 13th century gothic architecture.
The sites in the title of the tour are the places which we most try to get to on the day (subject to last minute closures or other unforseen circumstances). However, we do like to be flexible so feel free to discuss on the day if there are any additional sites you would like to see. Or if you would like to change the itinerary entirely (however you would have to purchase any tickets for sites which were not planned).
