The Nave which was extended during the later middle ages in the gothic style extends out so far that even with the west end shorter than it was several hundred years ago Winchester Cathedral is still the longest Cathedral in England! Venture out into the new forest which has been been used as a royal hunting ground and then later as a place for many people to use for common grazing and for forestry for nearly the last 1000 years.
